Grim situation continues as curfew enters 58th day in occupied Kashmir

Grim situation continues as curfew enters 58th day in occupied Kashmir

SRINAGAR: The grim situation remained unchanged in Indian occupied Kashmir on 58th consecutive day, on Tuesday, due to continued restrictions and communication blackout imposed by Narendra Modi-led communal government.

Normal life continues to remain crippled in the Kashmir valley and Muslim majority areas of Jammu region due to the snapping of mobile and internet services and closure of shops, markets, business establishments and educational institutions as well as the absence of public transport, as per Kashmir Media Service.

Thousands of Indian troops and police personnel deployed in every nook and corner of the Kashmir valley keep the residents confined to their homes.

While parents are reluctant to send their wards to schools in the prevailing precarious situation, a very thin attendance of teachers was reported. Attendance of employees in government offices was recorded constantly thin due to the non-availability of public transport. Train service in the occupied territory also remains suspended.

The Indian authorities have further intensified restrictions especially in the backdrop of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s speech on Kashmir at the United Nations General Assembly, which prompted the youth to come out of their houses in jubilation and clashed with Indian troops at many places in the territory.

Police vans fitted with speakers are making public announcements in Srinagar about movement restrictions, while additional troops have been deployed to prevent any protests.

Twitter lets users sideline unwanted direct messages

Twitter lets users sideline unwanted direct messages

Twitter on Monday said it is rolling out a filter that will hide away unwanted direct messages, providing a new tool to stymie abuse.

Twitter users who receive direct messages from people they don’t follow on the platform will be able to have such missives automatically routed to a secondary folder.

“Unwanted messages aren’t fun,” Twitter tweeted in August when it began testing the filter that let users keep them “out of sight, out of mind.”

The filter is intended to also catch messages with spam or offensive content, tagging them accordingly so users can decide whether they want to open them.

“We tested, and turns out filters help you cut through the noise to find gems,” Twitter said Monday in a tweet.

“Who knew. So we’re rolling out this filter to everyone on iOS, Android, and web.”

Twitter has been under pressure to battle abuse and vitriol on the platform known for letting anyone express themselves to the world in real-time.

The San Francisco-based company earlier this year introduced the option to hide replies to tweets in some countries, an option that promised to help foster more reasonable online conversations.

“We know that distracting, irrelevant, and offensive replies can derail the discussions that people want to have,” Twitter senior product manager Michelle Yasmeen Haq and product designer Brittany Forks said when tweet reply-filter testing was announced.

“We believe people should have some control over the conversations they start.”

Curfew continues for 57th consecutive day in Indian occupied Kashmir

Curfew continues for 57th consecutive day in Indian occupied Kashmir
IoK

SRINAGAR: The grim situation remained unchanged in Indian occupied Kashmir on 57th consecutive day, on Monday, due to continued restrictions and communication blackout imposed by Narendra Modi-led communal government.
