ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team along with Magistrate Sukkur on Tuesday raided food warehouses in Larkana, ARY News reported.

The raids were conducted on the directions of the NAB high-ups.

During raid at Rehmatpur godown, the NAB team found 14,838 sacks of wheat were missing from 42,188 bags. “The missing of wheat bags caused loss of Rs 25million to national exchequer”, the officials said.

In another raid at the Badah food warehouse, the wheat bags worth rupees 555million were found missing.

On April 26, wheat worth 12 million rupees was allegedly stolen from godowns in Sindh.

This was revealed during raids by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) at the godowns along with a magistrate. The raids at warehouses of Kandhkot and Kashmore were carried out on order of the NAB chairman.

A large number of sacks of wheat were found mixed with sand, while many other sacks were completely filled with sand.

An inquiry was launched against the provincial Food Department. Such a big irregularity with the holy month Ramazan just around the corner, seems to be an attempt to create crisis during Ramazan.

The NAB had warned that strict action would be taken against those also who would be found involved in selling the wheat in market.

Iran to keep exporting crude oil despite US pressure: President Rouhani

Iran to keep exporting crude oil despite US pressure: President Rouhani

Iran will continue to export oil despite US pressure aimed at reducing the nation’s crude oil shipments to zero, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a speech broadcast live on Iranian state TV on Tuesday.

“America’s decision that Iran’s oil exports must reach zero is a wrong and mistaken decision, and we won’t let this decision be executed and operational,” Rouhani said.

“In future months, the Americans themselves will see that we will continue our oil exports,” he said.

If the United States is able to stop one method for Iran to export oil, then it will find other ways, Rouhani said.

Oil prices hit their highest since November last week after Washington said all waivers for sanctions-hit Iranian oil would end this week, pressuring importers to stop buying from Tehran and further tightening global supply.

The United States demanded last Monday that buyers of Iranian oil stop purchases by May 1 or face sanctions, ending six months of waivers that had allowed Iran’s eight biggest customers, most of them in Asia, to continue importing limited volumes.

Ordinary Iranians are the ones who feel the pressure from US sanctions, Rouhani said.

LAHORE: An accountability court on Tuesday reserved a verdict on the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) plea to close a corruption case against PML-Q leaders Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

Accountability Judge Jawadul Hassan reserved the verdict after hearing arguments of a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor.

The prosecutor contended before the court that the bureau’s chairman had given his approval to close an inquiry against the Chaudhry brothers over alleged illegal purchase of 28 plots in the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) city.

He said it transpired during investigation that it was the Chaudhry brothers’ employee who had purchased the plots and that no evidence was found to show their involvement in the scam.

He, therefore, pleaded with the judge to grant its plea to close the case against the PML-Q leaders.

Earlier, the corruption watchdog had clarified hat it shelved an inquiry against PML-Q leaders Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in a Lahore Development Authority (LDA) case over lack of evidence.

“The decision to close the inquiry was taken during a meeting of the bureau’s executive board,” a spokesperson for the anti-graft watchdog said in a statement.

The bureau had initiated a probe against the Chaudhry brothers over purchase of 28 plots in LDA city.

SC dismisses bail petition of accused in ads corruption case

SC dismisses bail petition of accused in ads corruption case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday dismissed bail petition submitted by Inam Akbar who was accused in Sindh government’s advertisements corruption case, ARY News reported.

A bench comprising Justice Azmat Saeed, Justice Ijaz-ul-Hassan and Justice Mazhar Alam heard bail plea of an accused in the case relating to embezzlement of funds allocated for the advertisement of the Sindh government.

The bail petition was dismissed as the petitioner withdrew its plea following an interim order of the Lahore High Court (LHC) in the case. Akbar’s lawyer said that the high court has given final verdict over the bail petition.

Justice Saeed asked the Kamran Murtaza’s lawyer to continue his arguments on the original case as he is the prime accused in the case. The lawyer argued that Inam Akbar was a director of the firm while three accused have received bails in the case.

Justice Hassan remarked that Akbar was also performing additional duties as chief executive of the company. He added that Akbar had received Rs200 million against the bill of Rs44 million which was more than the written amount.

“All the money transferred to your personal bank account,” remarked Justice Hassan.

The lawyer argued that there were 52 witnesses in the case and the trial was not initiated so far.

Justice Hassan said, “High court had also ordered an inquiry into this, but you have left on payroll and some time to JPMC [Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre] hospital. You were also tried to play hide-and-seek with the court.”

“Following your conduct, the high court directed to open an inquiry, whereas, the three accused, who were released on bail, are only frontmen,” added Justice Hassan.

Justice Azmat Saeed remarked, “Sorry Mr lawyer, it doesn’t meet the criteria of bail. You should move to the trial court to run this case.”

Murtaza’s counsel pleaded the apex court to permit his client for withdrawing its case. He added, “After the withdrawal of this plea, we will file a new petition on medical grounds.”

Justice Saeed remarked that the petitioner was allowed to file a new plea on whatsoever ground he wants to register his petition.

To this, the lawyer pleaded SC to permit the petitioner for bail on medical ground. The apex court remarked that it could not write a single ground [for bail], however, the plea can only be filed on every fresh ground.
